Who Am I

My name is Andrew Herbert (BSc Hons) and I'm just on the upper side of 40 years old. Following a sucessful 20 year career working for a multi-national company in a wide variety fo roles I became another casualty of the recent plummet in Technology stocks. This life changing event caused me to examine my personal strengths and goals in life and I decided to set up a business to provide cost-effective IT support and consultancy for both home users and small businesses.

Experience

Following graduation from university I was employed as a junior materials engineer producing the base material for semiconductior lasers and photodetectors for use in fibre-optic telecommunications. I then moved wihtin the same company into operations management for the chip process stages of manufacture. It was in this role that I became involved in the implementation of a company ERP system (PROTOS 2000) which gave me exposure to computer based planning and purchasing systems.

Whilst the ERP system worked well down to a certain level it did not address shop floor flow control or data collection so I was given the responsibilty of selecting such a system and managing it's subseqent implementation. The solution eventually selected was PROMIS and was implemented initially for chip manufacturing and then extended to cover the entire device manufacturing flow.

I then moved into business reporting for an entire division of the company producing overall operational reports for management planning and review. Having been heavily involved with IT oriented tools I moved into the Information Systems department to bring a business influence in systems selection and specification.

After managing the IT department for several years I moved on to a corporate role for the parent company with project management responsibility for the stabilsation of a European BaaN ERP implementation and then into a technical architecture role with a corporate roll out of SAP order management. My final role was the technical systems architecture for a corporate wide data warehousing system.
